Cold exposure

"By putting ourselves through the stress of cold water immersion we learn to calm down and invoke the para-sympathetic nervous system that directly impacts our ability to effect the nervous system."

Yury is a Wim Hof Method Instructor who trained directly with the legendary Wim Hof in an adventure of a lifetime in a Polish winter.   There he learned that going into the cold consciously smashes through the invisible walls of fear and anxiety, making you both stronger and healthier both physically and mentally.

Cold water immersion directly triggers the sympathetic nervous system by causing a burst of epinephrine (aka adrenaline) to be released from the adrenal glands. Epinephrine increases the heart rate, pushing blood to the muscles; widens airways allowing more oxygen to be sent to the brain, and mobilizes blood sugars as an energy supply. The release of cortisol keeps the system revved up until the threat is perceived to have passed and action is no longer required, and then the para-sympathetic nervous system takes over and returns the body to a resting state. This stress cycle happens to us every day, at the dmv, traffic jams, subway, work, home, etc.

"Meditation helps you clear the junk from the inside and opens your consciousness to new ideas, possibilities and desires that are in line with what your soul wants and needs to be happy."

At the very simplest physical and biological level, meditation reduces blood pressure, relieves stress, and allows the nervous system to be in a parasympathetic state so that our body can get proper rest and the immune system regenerates.  Through your breath you allow the nervous system to relax. As you go deeper into your meditation practice,  the mind begins to quiet down. What you will generally notice after a while is that through this practice you become more calm, less reactionary and more aware and conscious of everyone and everything around you.

Yury has been a meditation practitioner for 15 years and has travelled to India and studied with numerous Yoga masters.

"You need to understand and realize what inhalation and exhalation is. It’s all about getting the mind out of the way and experiencing the “now”."

Breath is magic. Every conscious breath is energy, prana, chi, love and consciousness. We breathe in consciousness every time we inhale and the breath is an incredibly powerful tool when practiced consciously. There are thousands of different breathing techniques and they are all rooted in the ancient yoga practice of Pranayama. Prana means life-force and yama means the control of. The control of life-force energy.  There are breathing techniques for relaxation, for focus, for energy and for healing, this list is endless but the fundamentals are the same in all – conscious breathing.
